South Korea’s Buddhist celebrations give hope for peace

In South Korea, it is a traditional time of year to celebrate Buddha’s birthday. The country’s national holiday on May 8 emphasizes peace and harmony with the North – despite its firing of more rockets. Buddha’s birthday is a holiday traditionally celebrated in most of East Asia to commemorate the birth of the Prince Siddhartha Gautama, later the Gautama Buddha and founder of Buddhism.
